Win7 awesomeness
I was a pretty vocal / harsh critic of Vista’s suck during the beta and the SP1 beta . . . have been through lots of other betas I could tell that this OS was going to be the child the parents refer to as ‘special’.
So It was with great skepticism and trepidation that I installed Win7 build 6739 (which I think is the first build to be feature complete or have all of the various features checked into it and functional in some sort of way).
I threw it on a D: partition so as not to disrupt workflow in case of disaster.
I am pleased to report that it is now going to be my primary OS for day to day work. It is *un* freaking *believable*! Why? Because it’s @#$# fast that’s why!
It makes me hate Vista at a time when I had just managed to accept it with SP1 being stable and all. I mean it’s stupid fast – it’s like Windows XP fast!!
So far all of my hardware on my Dell D820 works – I didn’t have to go try and find any 3rd party drivers they were all just built-in. The only one that wasn’t downloaded automatically on first logon (the nVidia drivers) and I’ve been rocking multi-mon with no problem ever since. My smartcard reader just works and all I did was install eTrust x64 and the IT connection manager and voila – corpnet access. Interestingly when the smartcard is inserted you get the ‘device inserted’ thunk noise and even THAT is ID’d in Device Damager.
