Ok, I finally got some free time to work on this, and I’ve added it to my very important list, so hopefully I shall have a ton of time to work on this mod CD.

If you don’t know about the mod CD, click here to read about it. Now, to list things I’ve added on to it, as well as what I am going to be working on in the next few days:

    * I’ve added ATI graphics support for Radeon HD4xxx+ as covered in GraphicsEnabler, and additional kexts for it (legacy, exotic) will get installed, if needed.
    * I have updated the legacy kernel that gets installed, using the new patches for 10.6.5, applied to all previous versions. The (currently) 3 files will also get patched for you, if you are using an AMD system.
    * Eh, what else. Basic fixes here and there. Any known issues people had before is now fixed.

Okay, now before giving the link to the current version that’s up, understand that it’s important to get my stuff from here, and not from something from kexts.com because I am always making changes.

Now, onto things I am working on, and shoud have some of it done in the next few days:

    * I’m currently working on the postinstall notes which each pkg will add onto it. These will contain info about what got installed for your specific hardware, what hardware on your system they support, and what you need to do in order to manage it. This will also include any important links that may be important to you. This will be on the desktop for the first user created.
    * I’m going to be moving where the OSInstall.mpkg modification takes place to something later than /etc/rc.cdrom, which is used right now.
    * Some mistakes may be made, so it would be nice for an optional pkg you could run in case something fucked up. Think of it as something like myHack but smaller, and completely optional. It will pretty much have the stuff that is added to the customize list on the DVD which the Mod CD injects.
    * Things to add here and there. Some kexts to solve some common issues, like HPETDevice, might be added.

Any other ideas? I’m open to them. For radeon people (HD4xxx+ which graphicsenabler+exotic kexts support) let me know how it goes. I did see that there are modded kexts ready for older radeon cards too the other day, so I will check that out.

Also something I wanted to ask, if anyone has tested the new legacy kernel on SSE3-lacking CPUs. There have been a few people who tried using the boot CD and it didn’t work, due to that. I’m looking for some testers in that regard

With the latest work of meklort, whereby he has created a way to patch OSInstall.mpkg on the fly– which allows you to install OSX to a MBR partition , whichmeans that you don’t have to format the entire drive to GPT inorder to install OSX. This should be pretty good especially if you wantto keep your recovery partition or your current windows partition andwould like to install OSX along side with Windows. Nawcom , on the other hand sliced it alltogether and created a boot CD for you to test it out
Bearin mind that , this is still experimental. I am not responsible if yourcomputer blows up , if an alien abducts you , or if your PC wets thefloor for some odd reason.

看似Nawcom更新了自己的启动CD，再次热忱转载： Okay, I’ve been so distracted with everything in life that this week I finally decided to work on osx86 related stuff. I took a few days to put together the CD that I have been planning on doing – one that modifies what the retail DVD installs, hence turning a swap CD + retail DVD into an equivalent to how distros have always been. I also wanted to apply my ideas for autodetection for hardware support.


Let me introduce the nawcom Mod CD. It is exactly what this is. I still have a number of things to fix up in it, as well as I plan on redoing part of it so I will have it do the autodetection patching at the same time as the standard MBR fix is applied to the Distribution file, instead of the autodetection logic being in the package itself (does that make sense? heh). Due to the device id checks being executed in the package itself, it slows the customization (if one needed to do still) down a bit.

I only want some people who know the OS well to test this out and report back with valueable info, no “it doesn’t work” stuff. I have a few people in the irc.osx86.hu #snowleopard channel testing it already.

As I said, I’m gonna be making some big changes in how this works in the next few days, so it’s your choice if you want to try it out. I’ll also have some pics up with how the customize list looks like.

UPDATED CHANGES

• Changed the boot screenUsed the kernel blacklist code to disable graphics kexts when using the CD. This way there won’t be issues anymore.Hardware autodetection is now done in rc.cdrom instead of OSInstall.mpkg, so the Install Customize dialog now 1000% faster since theres no conditions to go through for each one.

What else is there to add? I plan on covering the kexts more and add some legitimate ATI video support. There are some issues with a few LAN cards. Also, even though I’ve implemented my little technique for delivering postinstall content to the desktop of the first user at the first time logging in, I have yet to implement the idea for the postinstall notes. As of now I’m only using it for a postinstall package for PS/2 Trackpad support. And of course, there is plenty of problems with a few newer CPUs, so I need to work on that.

From Nawcom blog:         I found out that meklort a while agowrote some support kext a while ago which takes advantage of somekern_exec.c code so you can do some initial userspace actions, whichIMO is fucking amazing.         He is currently using, for what I’ve seen, with a CLI app that he runsbefore launching WindowServer for his NBI project. I took this kext(PostBootMounter.kext + PostBootSymbols.kext) and changed the mountpoint in it so it takes advantage of /private/etc on the Install DVDinstead, which as of now is used to do some on the fly modification ofOSInstall and OSInstall.mpkg. As of now I have it so it does somepatching for all current versions and hopefully all future versions aswell.         Here are the scripts, which are contained in the PostBoot.img file onthe Boot CD’s Preboot.dmg and gets mounted at /private/etc:                         /etc/rc.cdrom (This is where the magic takes place) /etc/rc.install (This is no different than the vanilla rc.install other than the new location of OSInstall.mpkg) And that’s it, while I work on the new OSInstall.mpkg + new subpackagesit will have. If you read what I was talking about in the previous poston how I want to do the install packages – this is what I am going tobe doing here. Everything will be autodetected from hardware checksthrough the I/O Kit Registry, and an informative Post Install documentwill be placed on the Desktop of the first user that is created for theOS. If anyone has some ideas on other things I should throw in, let meknow! Note that I plan on making some of the autodetected optionscontrollable by the customize list that one can bring up when theyinstall the OS, so I won’t be taking away all control from the user ofwhat gets installed.         Here’s the boot CD to grab – since I don’t have the specialized Installpkgs on it, I just have myHack 1.1.4 in the Post-Install folder of theCD for you to run after booting up the installed OS with the CD.         Now, on to the second part of this post. It involves the current kernelthat we have collaborated from previous voodoo kernel code to use in10.6, adding on support for older CPUs, AMD CPUs, as well as even newerIntel CPUs. I named it the legacy kernel. If you’ve used myHack, youcan see Conti called it the chocolate kernel (which i think is afucking horrible name). I got in contact with AnV as well as a numberof other devs and hopefully we will get a group together for xnu work,just like the Voodoo Team in 10.5 with the xnu kernel.         One thing I want to change is the name of the kernel. If you thinkabout it, legacy is a bad word to attach to this. It’s not just forolder CPUs. And I don’t want to call it Voodoo again. IMO the nameVoodoo has been attached to a number of other projects. We need a newname for this.         Someone suggested the h4x0r kernel. Come on now. I hope you aren’tserious. Heh. I was thinking for a name that represents the purpose ofthe kernel – to extend support to the unsupported, in general. If yourx86 CPU isn’t supported, then it will be supported with this kernel. Ithought of something like universal xnu, though I still feelunsatisfied with it.         So here I am, asking people to help out with this idea. If you have areally nice name, or any suggestions about different directions thatyou feel is better, post below.
